About Medical Cannabis

Medicinal Cannabis preparations contain terpenoids and cannabinoids, of which CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the most studied. Each has its own qualities with some overlap and also augment each other's action. The choice of one or both depends on the patient's condition and their circumstances. There have been over 103 conditions approved by the TGA, including:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Cancer Pain & Symptoms
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Seizure Management
  • PTSD
  • Anorexia
  • Severe Insomnia
  • Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting
  • Palliative Care

The manufacture of Medicinal Cannabis is highly regulated and must conform to strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) this means the products are free from harmful ingredients, that doctors and consumers know what is in it, and that the effect it has for a patient will be consistent from bottle to bottle.
There are several manufacturers establishing in Australia and until local product becomes available, most are importing ready-prepared products from sister companies in Canada.

These products are at the required standard of the TGA and are designed to assist patients who have one of the eligible conditions.
Maria Clinic will be using MedReleaf Brand of Medical Cannabis products, as they are renowned for their high quality, accredited by both Health Canada and the EU and manufactured under stringent GMP manufacturing processes. However, we may also recommend other products if they are deemed more appropriate. Current formulations available include oils, gel caps and dried bud, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. These will be discussed with individual patients at their consultation.
